How I chose schools to apply to

I applied to a super random collection of schools because I had very little idea of what I was doing in the college application process. I don't advise this! Try to be reasonable about where you're looking in a number of ways. First, don't bother applying to schools you wouldn't go to. It's a waste of your time and money. Second, do your research. Not only are there a couple schools I applied to for very whimsical reasons, but there are also a number of schools I didn't apply to for equally whimsical reasons. To this day I wonder sometimes if UChicago meant to accept me, but whether or not it was an accident, they did it and now I'm here. It was my dream school and I worked very hard to get here, and part of that hard work meant submitting an incredibly strategic application that ultimately represented ME incredibly well.
