College Application Essays

Personal Statement: Family background
57 Words
I wrote on how I hated my mother for hiding the fact that her mother (my grandmother) was a lesbian. It was largely hypothetical, but I touched on how differently I would have come to terms with my own sexuality if I had been raised in an environment which could have very easily supported more liberal views.

Supplemental Essay: Diversity statement
36 Words
I wrote on how I was essentially a first generation college student because my mom only finished her degree when she was 35. Even then she never experienced college because she always commuted or did distance learning.
