The summer of my sophomore year, I felt certain in my abilities to study in Brazil, with a host family I had never met and a language I had barely studied. Half way through my summer, I attempted to travel a park by myself, but became hopelessly lost. The experience taught me self-reliance, the kindness of strangers, and the importance of critical self-evaluation for preparedness.
