I talked about my volunteer work with special needs children, in particular close work with a young girl I mentored who spoke her very first word with me. I discussed how the experiences in my community inspired in me a passion to pursue a degree in cognitive science and child development.

Most of the universities I applied to did not seem to have extensive supplementary essay materials. Most colleges with on the Common Application and the same essays were sent to all the colleges. I did not choose universities to apply to based on the amount of supplementary materials needed.
